Repair terms
These terms cover repairs, setups, modifications and other work on instruments and equipment you leave with me. The website terms of service cover downloads and plugins. Beige Threat is operated by Lewis Flude in Margate, Kent. Questions: contact@beigethreat.com.
Quotes and your go-ahead
Prices on the repairs page are for labour. Where a job needs fault-finding, I charge the listed assessment fee and then quote. If you go ahead, the assessment fee comes off the final bill. I start work only once you've agreed the quote, by email or in person. If I find something that would take the job over the agreed price, I stop and ask you before carrying on.
If you decline the quote, you pay the assessment fee. If I can't fix the fault, you pay the assessment fee, if the job had one, and no other labour. You also pay for any parts you agreed to and return postage if it applies.
Changing your mind
If you agree a quote in person, you can still change your mind before I start: tell me and you pay only the assessment fee, if the job had one. Once I've started, you pay for the work done so far and any parts already fitted.
If you agree a quote without us meeting, for example by email for a posted repair, you also have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing it, without giving a reason. Email me to cancel; a clear statement is enough, and you can use the model cancellation form from the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 if you want to. I won't start work in those 14 days unless you ask me to. If you ask me to start sooner and then cancel, you pay for the work done up to the point you told me. Once the work is finished, you can no longer cancel it.
Parts
Parts I supply are charged at cost plus 15%. Strings are charged at shop price. If you supply parts, I'll fit them with the same care, but I can't guarantee the parts themselves, and fitting time spent on a faulty part you supplied is chargeable.
Older and worn parts
Old instruments and equipment sometimes have parts that are close to failing: brittle wiring, seized truss rods, corroded jacks, tired capacitors. If I see a risk like that, I'll tell you before I start. I'm not responsible for a worn part failing while I work on it carefully, but I am responsible for damage I cause through lack of care.
While I have your gear
I take reasonable care of everything left with me. When an item arrives I note any visible damage and anything missing, and send you a copy if you weren't there to see it. Remove anything you don't need me to have, such as cases for pedals, gig bags, and spare leads.
Postage
I accept pedals and guitars by post. Amps are drop-off only. You are responsible for packing and sending items to me. I send items back tracked and insured for their stated value and charge return postage at cost. Report any transit damage within 48 hours of delivery so I can claim from the carrier.
Payment
Payment is due on collection, or before return postage for posted items. I keep the item until the bill is paid.
Guarantee
My work is guaranteed for 6 months from the date I finish it. Valves I supply are guaranteed for 90 days. If the work I did fails in that time, I'll put it right at no charge. The guarantee doesn't cover new faults unrelated to my work, accidental damage, misuse, or later work by someone else. Setups also change with the seasons, string gauge and tuning, which isn't a fault.
Your statutory rights
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, I must carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, and within a reasonable time where no date was agreed. If I don't, you're entitled to have the work done again or, where that isn't possible, to a price reduction. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.
Collection and uncollected items
I'll tell you by email when the work is finished. Storage is free for 30 days from that email. After that I charge £2 a day, and I'll remind you before it starts.
If an item isn't collected within 3 months of my email, I'll send written notice to the contact details you gave me, asking you to collect it and pay what's owed. If it's still not collected, I'll send a further notice giving at least the time the law requires before I sell it. Under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, I may then sell it and keep what you owe from the proceeds. I'll hold the rest for you. Please keep your contact details up to date.
Your details
I keep your name, contact details and a record of the work to manage the job, provide the guarantee and keep accounts. The privacy policy explains what I keep, for how long, and your rights.
Changes
I may update these terms. The version in force when you agree a quote applies to that job.
